Impossible Drive

There is a rumor going around that there is a new space travel engine being tested. So what? Well, it appears to break the laws of physics. Read more to find out how.

Recently, NASA has developed a new form of propulsion for space travel. The EmDrive, or Impossible Drive as it is referred to as, is a propellant free thruster. Most engines work by burning a large amount of fuel or propellant, thus weighing down the craft. However, the EmDrive doesn't need a propellant. It works by producing microwave radiation and reflecting it in a specific direction. According to the most widely accepted theories, this type of thruster should violate several principles of physics, such as the law of conservation of momentum.

However, it does in fact provide some thrust. NASA created a prototype of the EmDrive and tested it. The drive worked and actually provided around 1mN/kW. This is actually much more efficient than the ion engine.

In the future, the EmDrive could theoretically go from Earth to Mars in a very short amount of time. What are your thoughts about this? Follow to stay up to date on the latest science and technology news.
