November 5th

What is so special about tomorrow? Something happened on November 5th, so continue reading to find out what it was.

Tomorrow is a mostly forgotten day where people light bonfires to celebrate the failure of the Gunpowder Treason. On November 5th, 1905, vigilante Guy Fawkes was arrested while guarding several barrels of gunpowder that were to be used to kill King James 1 of England.

The plot was to kill the current king (who was Protestant) and replace him with his daughter, Princess Elizabeth. The plot failed and the citizens were allowed to light fires and burn effigies of Guy Fawkes in celebration.

There is a simple poem that describes Guy Fawkes and the Gunpowder Treason.

"Remember, remember, the 5th of NovemberThe Gunpowder Treason and plot;I see of no reason why Gunpowder TreasonShould ever be forgot."

What do you think? Will you celebrate on November 5th? Be sure to follow to stay up to date on the latest science and technology news.
