Open Bionics, a company that is trying to bring the future to you. What they do is create prosthetic limbs for researchers, hobbyists, and amputees to use. Not only are these prosthetics low in cost, they are also quite stylish.
Their main project is the Ada Hand; a low cost robotic hand meant for research. The hand can be 3d printed and the files are free. However, it is not a medical product and the circuitry and parts are fairly costly.
Open Bionics also teamed with Edios Montreal, the creators of the Deus Ex series, Razer, one of the world's leading computer technology companies, and Intel, another of the world's leading technology and computer processing companies, What they produced is a marvel of engineering and design. Their beautiful prosthetic arms can be seen on their website: http://www.augmentedfuture.com/
The company also plans to launch the Ada Hand as a medical prosthetic sometime after November of 2016 and as late as early 2017. In the future, Open Bionics plans to expand to other types of prosthetics, including legs and feet.
Maybe they could expand to internal implants and augmentations like those demonstrated in the video game series Deus Ex. What are your thoughts on this? Would you get augmented? Let me know in the comments below and be sure to follow to stay up to date on all the latest science and technology news.
