Hundreds of Millions of Email's Leaked

So recently, a couple hundred million email accounts were leaked recently, and you are probably not affected. Continued below.

What exactly happened? Well, someone in Russia supposedly leaked a couple hundred million Gmail, Hotmail, and mail.ru  (I'm not sure if mail.ru is correct-- it probably isn't) accounts. Through my research, I have found that there are many different variations on the exact number of accounts leaked, ranging from as low as 5 million up to about 900 million. Finding this, I decided to dig deeper and look to the cyber-security company known as Hold Security that holds a large majority of companies' and users' credentials. They report that there were roughly 900 million credentials stolen. However, most of the usernames and passwords that were stolen were already part of previous breaches and thus were recovered. According to their post, this is the link to the post, 1.17 billion credentials were actually gathered by the Russian hacker in total. Out of this, roughly 15% of them were unique and were not part of previous breaches. Statistically speaking, that if you are part of this breach it is not likely that your credentials were stolen if you only have a Gmail account (which were reportedly numbering only 5 million). However, it might still be a good idea to check and be sure to change your password just in case.
